Finally, another chapter of Eon stuffs.
Shyria slowly walked through the door into the empty room. Thadius had told her to meet him here, though she didn't know why she was to come during daylight hours. If he was a shadowbender, then shouldn't he be sleeping during the day?
"You came. I was worried you wouldn't."
"Unlike me. Which is what this is about."
Thadius...and Apogee in the same room, at the same time? Wasn't that impossible? Shyria waited for some modicum of sanity to return.
Thadius stepped out of the shadows of the room, and Apogee was simply there, like he'd always been there. The two walked to opposite ends of the room, leaving Shyria in the middle.
"What is this about? I wasn't informed in your note, Thadius."
Thadius grinned and began a monologue. "Don't you wonder about us two? Why we're so different, and yet good friends?"
"In truth," Apogee picked up, "It's because we can be nothing else. While we may be polar opposites, we are stuck together. Much like North and South on a magnet."
"Only this bond," Thadius resumed, "Is much deeper than a magnet. In order to show you why, we brought you to this room, which technically does not exist. Look behind you, the door has vanished."
Shyria turned and got a small jolt as she realized this room was, in fact, sealed. The door was gone, leaving her no way out. "How...are you doing this?"
"You will see. Now, to begin."
And with that, both Thadius and Apogee filled their respective sides with their associated power. After a few seconds, they both thrust at each other, and a silent explosion of light filled the room. The whole room was as a movie theater.
"What...is this?" Shyria walked on a floor that seemed to not be there, due to the mass of gray fog coating everything.
"This," Thadius' voice penetrated from one side of the room, "Is what we saw while we were transformed. We may not have gone far physically, but in our mind's eye, we traveled...to here."
On Apogee's side of the room, it was significantly brighter. Shyria could see Apogee flying through the clouds, absorbing light, and talking with angels. The more goodness he experienced, the more he shone, becoming as a second sun in the already bright sky. And then she turned and looked at Thadius' side.
She gasped. She stared. She couldn't believe.
Thadius was being dragged through every layer of Hell. He begged and pleaded with whoever was pulling the iron chain around his waist to stop, but it never did. Every damned soul, every demon, even the ground itself rubbed evil onto him. For every thing he touched, he took a part of them with him. And it just got worse and worse until finally, he was pulled through a small door. Inside was a person, but Shyria knew who it was, the only being who could drag him through every layer. The Devil Himself. The Devil grinned, and then moved both his hands off the chain and onto Thadius' head. There was a black flash, and all was still.
The room went gray again, and Apogee stared at this new being on the opposite side of the room. It somehow looked very much like Thadius, but black smoke was coming off of it. Apogee went and sat Thadius up, then fanned some of the smoke away from Thad's face. Once he realized it was Thad, Apogee hugged him close. At that point, Thadius woke up and screamed. Apogee held him tighter, and Thadius slowly petered out.
Then something flashed, and the two of them were replaced by one being. It had a form like the Thadius of the present day, but the color was gray everywhere. It concentrated, and then Apogee and Thadius appeared again. This third being, though, was still there and confused.
"That," Apogee's voice said, "Is representative of both our minds. In truth, we only have one mind between us."
"However," Thadius rang out, "There is a problem. We must be in perfect harmony in order to be linked, and we are not. We have been for some time now. One of us has been the darker side of things, and the other has been the lighter. One of us is nocturnal, and the other is diurnal. We are opposites, and we balance each other out. Until now."
"You see," And with this Apogee and Thadius stepped out from the gray fog, the movie ending, "One of us loves you, and the other has no feelings whatsoever. This is not to say one of us hates you, but our linked mind and powers are in peril. However, the one that loves you does not care, and will gladly sacrifice everything in order to be with you. His own self, if you command it."
"That is the problem, though," Thadius said moodily while the fog disappeared, returning the room to mostly normal, "The linked mind we share has a good portion of us in it. When that goes, we may very well suffer enough backlash to overload us. But the one that loves you cares not. So we ask you, Shyria...Do you..."
Shyria turned towards Apogee, expecting him to be the one that loved her. After all, he was the light side of the two. Thadius, however, continued his speech unabated.
"Love...me?"
Shyria gasped slightly and looked at Thadius. She had been expecting to have to let Apogee down gracefully, but this caught her off-guard. This being of darkness had some light in it? This utterly black soul had a kernel of goodness? She was overwhelmed for a minute, trying to compose an answer that was more than just a string of babbling. Thadius looked at her, his expression growing slowly darker.
"I...I..." Finally, something connected in Shyria's brain. The male dragons back home only wanted her connection to the royal line. There was nobody here who could know that, so this love was genuine. And as such, she could not tell them to bug off and leave her alone, hoping they would know why. Plus, it would also really annoy the council back home if she came back with a human. A powerful human that could deck most of them...She made up her mind and took three quick steps towards Thadius, then planted a kiss firmly on his lips.
Thadius' eyes widened in shock, then closed, helping him savor the moment. Afterwards, there was a jolt of lightning that arced through his brain, resetting several mental pathways to their old positions. Across the room, the same thing happened to Apogee. Shyria felt a jolt, but didn't understand it. "What was that?"
"That..." Thadius slowly said, "Was our linked mind breaking. We've been restored to our original selves, our old personalities and temperaments."
Shyria frowned. "This doesn't affect us, does it?"
Thadius smiled again. "Not in the least, unless you count an intensified feeling for you surging through me."
Shyria hugged Thadius close. "Well, now I have an extra incentive to come back at night."
Thadius returned the hug and ran his fingers through her hair. "And I'll be watching."
Shyria slowly walked through the door into the empty room. Thadius had told her to meet him here, though she didn't know why she was to come during daylight hours. If he was a shadowbender, then shouldn't he be sleeping during the day?
