What gives? No writings?
Anyway. Introducing...Shyria!
Thadius hovered slightly over the school, and if one were to look at him, they'd say he was sleeping, or dead. In fact, he was meditating. He had achieved what Apogee and himself had agreed on would be the mark for their self-training. He was aware of every particle of the school, from a person down to the tiniest mote of dust. What the clincher was, though, was that he understood all the information that was streaming into his brain.
The dark of the night, the dark of the moon...the darkness in my heart. All these things give me power, and finally, I have achieved a feat with it. Wait...what's that?
There was something...wrong to the east. Something that did not belong was headed towards the school, with one thought on its mind. Find the evil one...find the evil one and drag it back to the spirit realm...find the evil one...
Not good. Whatever it is, it plans on doing harm to one of those that dwell here. Which I'm pretty sure is against my job description.
Thadius snapped out of his meditation and whisked himself to the eastern side of the grounds. He stood directly in the path of whatever it was that was coming. He wasn't sure what it was, since he only brushed its mind, but he knew it wasn't going any further than him.
A rustling in the underbrush, coupled with a crashing noise, signaled something big headed his way. Finally, Thadius saw the mystery being. He didn't gasp at all, but merely took in every detail.
It was a dragon, black in color with a brown underbelly. Blue markings started at the eyes and worked their way to the jaws, while stripes of a similar color worked their way down the spine. Golden horns protruded from the skull. The wings were tightly folded, so as not to occupy space and be scraped up too badly, while the tail was being used to keep the center of gravity stable while running. All in all, Thadius estimated that the dragon was about twenty feet long and possibly five feet tall. The moment it saw him, the dragon stopped and stared.
"I heard you coming," Thadius said, "And I must say, you aren't allowed to go any further."
"Who are you to deny me?" The dragon had a voice that would scare most people. Thad, however, wasn't most people.
"The guard of this place. I can't allow you in if you intend to bring harm."
The dragon glared. "And if I should try anyways?"
"I wouldn't. Then again, you're not going to listen, are you?"
The dragon shook its head. "I must get inside."
Thad sighed. "Go ahead and try to get past me then."
The dragon roared and ran right at Thad. When it was a mere foot away from hitting him, Thad whipped his head up. His eyes were ablaze with dark fire, which caused the dragon to stop in its tracks. Just in time, too, because a barrier of shadows sprang up just in front of it.
"How...are you the evil one?" The dragon was bemused, in the least.
Thad laughed. "Oh, I have enough darkness on my soul and in my heart to be the one you seek. But I'm not. No, I'm merely Thadius Shadowbender, and I don't take kindly to people trying to harm the children."
The dragon frowned. "Children?"
"Yes. Children who have had their lives shattered in the name of science. Children who have been forced into being something they were never meant to be. I know, because I'm one of them. I will not see what they have left of their lives destroyed for whatever purpose you serve. They are happy here, to a degree. And they will stay that way."
The dragon snorted, and small flames shot out of its nostrils. "You don't understand. There is an evil spirit loose here. If I don't find it and take it back with me, then it will inflict greater evil than you could ever know. It is tethered to a living being here, and I intend not to leave empty handed."
"And how do I know that by removing the one you seek, you won't harm the one it's tethered to? I can't have that."
Slowly, the sky started to lighten. The dragon grinned. "If you're a Shadowbender, then you're starting to weaken now. I'll just shapeshift, walk in, find the one I want, and you'll not be able to stop me."
Thad smiled. "True, I am weakening. And true, I can't stop you. Go ahead and try, though..."
Thad vanished in a puff of shadows, appearing in the school, knowing that his counterpart had been awake for an hour now and knew what to do.
