Since Taro objected to the first attempt, I'll try again! This time with much Kaito-ness!
Days...weeks...months...They all blended together in the massive march of Time to Thad. The school could probably take care of itself with all the night shift people.
The children, however, could not. Ever since the induction of the chemical to the food and drink supply, Thad and Apogee had been working around the clock to stop it from taking over people. They had little results, as it seemed to absorb everything they threw at it.
There it was again...that odd mind deep below ground...
Thad decided that no threat or unknown item could go univestigated, and moved to find out where and what this person...or thing, was.
Thad moved through the shadows and appeared in a small white room deep below ground. There appeared to be a chute in the ceiling that allowed for the lowering of food, drink, air, and light. Another hole in the floor allowed for the disposal of wastes. And in the corner...
There was...a creature unlike anything Thad had ever seen. It appeared to have six legs and four arms...it's skin was black...spikes ran down it's spine...and there appeared to be no eyes visible. Thad reached out and touched it's mind.
It was asleep. Dreaming. It was in a vast blood-plain, and it was feasting upon an endless supply of blood. It recoiled at his touch and began to awaken...
Thad barely had time to draw out of the thing's mind before it stirred. It moved slightly and looked around, searching for the one that had awoken it. "Hello?" it called.
Thad readied a sheild. "Hello there. I've not met you before, do you have a name?"
The thing shook it's head. "Are you an Eon?"
"Why do you ask?" Thad replied.
"Cause the people that feed me don't like Eons. They keep telling me all the bad things Eons do."
Thad kept his temper in check. "It's because of them that Eons even exist. They've been doing bad things to Eons and people alike, when all Eons want is to live whatever life they have left now."
"You're an Eon...but you don't do bad things?"
"Not all Eons are bad. I am some of both. Yes, I'm probably the worst Eon out there, seeing what I've done, but I'm trying to make up for it in whatever ways I can."
Thad pondered a little while. "I can't just say 'you' or 'thing'...Do you have a name you'd like to be called by?"
It pondered a moment. "Kaito," it declared later.
"Why is that?"
"I don't know, I just like the sound of the name. I think I heard one of them call me that."
"Very well Kaito, I am Thad. You must not let anyone know I was here, otherwise bad things might happen to you. The people that feed you don't like me much, and try to make sure that nobody knows I exist."
Kaito nodded then. "Can I ask you for some food?"
Thad grinned and willed a simple thing into being. A pop-tart from the kitchens upstairs. He held it out to Kaito, who seemingly sniffed at it, then devoured it in one huge bite. Thad noted the large amount of very big, very sharp teeth. Kaito chewed for a few minutes, then swallowed. "That was the best thing I've had! Can I have another one?"
Thad smiled again, albeit a little shakily. "We don't want the people that feed you to get suspicious now, do we? I'll come back tomorrow night."
Thad withdrew from Kaito's cell-room, and became the cat once he was inside the school. He'd have to inform Apogee about this creature...
