A thread where you can share tips related to creating characters (coming up with species, names, personalities, ect) and suggest resources to find more ideas. You can also use this thread to share inspiration for your various characters outside of profiles and to ask for help if you have trouble coming up with traits for your new character.
Here's a few of mine. Some of these characters you might not know very well, but they exist:
Shyria: No idea; all I remember is brainstorming with Taro during an RP session in middle school and this came up. Thought it rather unique at the time, up until I saw one of the accounts on Eirra's name-stealers list on DA
Vora (Full name: Erberek Vorastrix): Shyria's "pet" snake, formerly a rather eccentric human sorcerer reincarnated in his new snakey body (personalitywise, think Darius-light, with respect to Eirra). Last name is DnD-version Draconic for "sorcerer", first name is from the DnD Player's Handbook. Translated: "Erberek the Sorcerer". I'm so original, aren't I?
Barty: Shyria's other pet, a Giant Pacific Octopus with an odd fascination with ninjas, despite being named after the pirate Bartholemew Roberts (I hope I spelled the first name properly).
Eric: Unseen outside of mine and Kama's personal Photoshop doodle dumps. Offspring of Shyria and Jack Sparrow. Kama randomly suggested his name when I asked her to quickly come up with one I could use. Interestingly, also the name of my would-have-been-older brother had he not died as a baby. Obviously Eric-the-character came about before I got together with Thadius.
Michael: Also unseen outside of doodle dumps. Thadius and Shyria's kid now. Pulled this one from memory, plus I always liked the sound of the name.
Tristian: Even Kama doesn't know much about him yet. I've had a desire over the past couple of weeks to design a new character with water-inspired elements (sea creature, water-elemental, and so on) and so I settled on a "fishman". About what I have planned out now regarding him is that A) He's Irish, and B) His girlfriend's a water dragon. His name came from reading a story called "Tristian et Yseut" in French (basically the French version of Romeo and Juliet).
Vanessa: Tristian's girlfriend. She's a water dragon, and she happens to live in Scotland...mythology buffs like me can easily guess what her name is designed to resemble.
So apart from rambling about character origins, you can also use this thread to propose good resources for character names, personality quirks, and what to avoid.
www.namenerds.com/uucn/goth.html Not all are necessarily what we'd name our kids, but depending on how "dark" your character is or think they are, they may be just what you need
tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Characters A VERY comprehensive resource devoted to common themes and cliches among various forms of media. Great site to check out to ID problem traits; several articles also cite examples of subversions to the described tropes, giving you some aid in avoiding them yourself
So to whoever reads this-for some reason my threads never get much traffic-enjoy! (hopefully)
